Kerrville pitmasters Kyle Bond and Abram Bueché brought authentic Texas barbeque flavors to
the international market with their seasoning brand BBQue Texas. Launched in January 2023,
the growing business features award-winning seasoning blends that are curated and
manufactured to be distinctively Texan.
Bond and Bueché both have decades of experience in culinary competitions, with their
barbeque recipes winning hundreds of accolades. When the two first came together, they
started as a small catering company which served the Hill Country freshly-made barbeque at
parties and events.
Notably, the company solidified itself into its community by donating catering to fundraising
events such as The Fur Ball and Charity Ball. Wanting to share their vision of how barbeque
should taste, the seasoned competition cooks began crafting a line uniquely Texan spice-
blends.
“Go to a grocery store and you will see the seasoning section is pretty much all McCormick and
Fiesta spices. We began learning that there weren’t many big brands focused on seasoning for
grilling specifically.” said Bond.
After discovering this niche in the seasoning market, Bond and Bueché decided to create a line
of products that would bring genuine Texas barbeque flavors to the plates of people
everywhere.
“We have pride for how we have proven ourselves in grilling and Texas has the most
competitive barbecue competitions. Our tried-and-true recipes have been proven to win. That’s
our differentiator.” said Bond.
Another way BBQue Texas differs from big competitors on the spice shelf is its smaller-scale
operation. To make their ambitions reality, the pair needed a partner that would help guide them
in the business aspect.
“We made some phone calls to see who could be our co-packer partner. We decided to go with
Fiesta to get a little bit of mentorship for talking to buyers and stores.” said Bond.
Much like how BBQue Texas invested in its community through charitable catering, the Hill
Country returned the support.
“Our first big company that worked with us was Mini Mart in Kerrville. They put us in all of their
stores, over thirty locations. Then we got into Gibson’s and a ton of other local businesses.” said
Bond.
Still wanting to introduce their authentic Texas flavors to new audiences, the company struck a
deal that took BBQue Texas nationally.
“We had a really fortunate break when we got into Scheels, which is a sporting goods store.
They're not in the southern part of Texas, but they're up in Fort Worth and all across the
country. We're in 30 of their stores.” said Bond.
The growth has been exponential in the case of BBQue Texas. In less than two years the
Kerrville-based brand has shared the flavors of authentic Texas barbeque internationally.
“We got our first product on a shelf in May 2023, and since then we have gotten into over 35
states and 2 countries, with over 100 total retail locations,” said Bond.
