The Pregnancy Resource Center of Kerrville is celebrating 40 years of servicing the Hill Country
by throwing their 10th annual Wall of Hope event.
The banquet is being held October 1st, with a lunch at noon and a dinner at 8 PM to
accommodate the growing demand in attendance. Participants can expect a breakdown of what
the resource center has been doing, their recent and future plans, and keynote speaker
alongside a catered meal.
Executive Director Jamie Schwab previewed some of the updates coming to the Pregnancy
Resource Center.
“One of the big announcements this year is that we have a Director of Fatherhood who's joining
the team. Now we will have a father who will be here to meet with and help dads in the
community,” said Schwab.
Schwab elaborated on the decision to expand focus to classes on fatherhood.
“What we realized is a lot of the fathers didn’t really have the support they needed and a lot of
them felt secluded and isolated. Many resources focus on the woman, which we still do, but our
mission is to enable families to develop healthy parenting skills. Family includes Dad.” said
Schwab.
The Pregnancy Resource Center has been a beacon of support for parents in the Hill Country
for 4 decades. Through grants, fundraising, and donations, the Pregnancy Resource Center
provides their clients with STI testing, ultrasounds, parenting classes, as well as unique material
assistance free of charge.
The center offers a program called ‘Baby Bucks’, where parents can earn fake money at classes
that can be exchanged for childcare supplies.
“The parenting class is free. We pay them to get the education, where they can earn up to $80
worth of ‘Baby Bucks’ each class. If they do homework, get prayer, get a baby book and bring
the spouse they will earn 4 ‘Baby Bucks’ that they'll redeem for things like car seats, strollers,
and cribs,” said Schwab.
Some unique offerings at the Pregnancy Resource Center ‘Baby Buck’ Boutique include
vouchers for gasoline and gift cards to JCPenney for children’s clothing.
“The biggest thing that is popular right now in the boutique are gas vouchers through a local
Mini Mart. Once, we almost sold 500 of the gas vouchers in just one day,” said Scwab.
The assistance the Pregnancy Resource Center has provided local families is immense, yet not
immeasurable. According to the 2024 Pregnancy Resource Center’s Annual Report, the center
has served 232 clients, provided 6,711 services, and saw 1,804 clinic visits.
The Wall of Hope event is free and open to the public, the Pregnancy Resource Center
