To accommodate its ever-evolving gastroenterology department, Peterson Health opened a new clinic in the Amanda and J. David Williams Surgery Center.
The second floor lobby of Peterson Health’s new surgery center was packed with an array of medical staff, administration, and community supporters for the clinic’s ribbon-cutting ceremony. Among those representing Peterson, Chief Strategic Development Officer Tim Rye shared the inspiration behind the expansion.
“ Our gastroenterology practices were growing very quickly and we got landlocked. Since the practices have been busting at the seams, this new clinic will help facilitate that growth,” said Rye.
The gastroenterology department at Peterson Health provides a variety of care for many Hill Country residents, including preventative and diagnostic care for gastrointestinal diseases and disorders.
“We always say, ‘No matter how many gastroenterologists you have, you don’t have enough.’ That’s because they do everything from preventative care and screenings to things like colon cancer,” said Rye.
Another advantage of the expansion is the added convenience of being located directly above the state-of-the-art surgery center, which makes gastroenterology diagnoses and procedures simple.
“ What’s great is the doctors do all their procedures downstairs now, too. They can go downstairs, do an endoscopy, and come right back up – it’s just nice and convenient,” said Rye.
Dr. Luis Acosta, one of two staff gastroenterologists at Peterson, touched on the anticipated improved cohesion between the clinic and surgery center.
“ We’re extremely excited to be in our new space–it’s has a great synergy. With the new clinic, and the surgery center that we now have downstairs, it’s going to increase our ability to get the clinical care to patients in our community,” said Dr. Acosta.
The surgery center opened last June, with the intention of improving its capacity for outpatient surgery procedures. Since its grand opening last summer, the second floor has been built to house the gastroenterology clinic and is expected to house a plastic surgery practice as well. The remaining space, including the entire third floor, is reserved for future expansion.
“When we built this building out, we knew we needed the surgery center, and when we started doing that, we knew we were going to need more offices. So we made it three stories, because we knew we would need to utilize the space for future specialties.” said Rye.
